Pink Beach: snorkel time for a private group

Updated 27 October 2026

Pink Beach Komodo by private boat gives a group 45 to 90 minutes to snorkel over a reef that sits close to shore. The sand is pale pink in patches, not bright pink. On the example route it is the second stop of day two, after Padar.

What makes the sand pink

The tint comes from fragments of red coral mixed into the sand. That is the whole secret, and it explains the limits. The color is pale pink in patches, never the bright pink of a postcard, and it shifts with the light and the tide.

Some maps call this stop Long Beach, because the beach is long and wide enough for a group of 14 to spread out. Locals know it as Pantai Merah.

The color is best seen at the waterline, where the wet sand deepens. Look at the sand rather than at the sea. The sea here is the draw for snorkelers, and the sand is the bonus.

Do not take coral or sand home. A pinch of sand in a pocket is a pinch of the beach, and a boat full of friends adds up fast.

Snorkeling at Pink Beach with a mixed group

This is the friendliest snorkel stop on the route. The reef is close to the shore, the current is mild and the depth runs from 1 to 8 meters. It is easy for every swimmer.

Life jackets are on board on all three boats. A non-swimmer who wears one floats at the shallow edge with a friend beside them, and the more confident swimmers go further out along the reef.

Snorkel gear comes with the boat. If your mask never fits, bring your own, and you will thank yourself at 45 minutes. Reef-safe sunscreen is the house rule here, since the reef is the reason to come.

The advice for a mixed group is to pair up. Put one confident swimmer with each nervous one before anyone enters the sea.

How long a private group can stay

A snorkel at Pink Beach runs 45 to 90 minutes. The route decides where in that range you land, since day two also holds Padar, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. A group that wants the full 90 minutes tells the captain at breakfast.

Mornings give calmer water and softer light, and the example route reaches Pink Beach in the morning after Padar. July and August are the crowded months, and December is busy as well.

If the dates are flexible, sail outside July and August. The boat fare is the same, and you share the beach with fewer groups.

The captain decides the order of stops and the time at each on the day. Weather changes the plan, and Pink Beach is one of the stops with room to give if Komodo Island needs more time.

Pink Beach in the middle of day 2

On the 3D2N route Pink Beach follows Padar by 60 to 90 minutes of sailing. The group comes down from the ridge, sails to the beach, snorkels and has a swim. Komodo Island is 30 to 60 minutes further on, so the beach is a place to cool down before the dragon trek.

The 2D1N route keeps the same order on day two. The 4D3N route puts Pink Beach on day three, after Padar, with Strawberry Rock and Kalong still to come.

Because it follows Padar everywhere, Pink Beach also serves as the rinse after the climb. The group arrives sweaty and leaves salty, which suits everybody.

Fees and rules at the beach

Snorkeling at Pink Beach is covered by the park entry ticket. The ticket is paid per person: IDR 50,000 on a weekday for a domestic guest, IDR 75,000 on a weekend and IDR 250,000 for an international guest. Ranger and pier charges are settled on the day, outside the ticket.

None of that is in the boat fare. Add it as its own line when you split the cost, so the share per person stays honest.

Rules are short. Do not stand on coral, do not feed fish and do not leave anything on the beach. Take your trash back to the boat, including the small stuff.

Komodo National Park fees (paid separately)
International visitorsIDR 250,000 per person per day
Indonesian visitorsIDR 50,000 per person per day · IDR 75,000 weekends & holidays

Paid separately in cash or e-ticket; ranger and pier levies are extra and can change. Regulation: PP 36/2024 · Verified 27 October 2026.

FAQ

How long do we stay at Pink Beach?

A snorkel runs 45 to 90 minutes. Where you land in that range depends on the day, because day two also holds Padar, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. Ask the captain for the longer stay at breakfast, and the order of stops stays his call.

Can non-swimmers snorkel at Pink Beach?

With a life jacket, yes at the shallow edge. The current is mild and the depth runs from 1 to 8 meters, but the reef starts close to shore. Life jackets are on board on all three boats. A non-swimmer stays with a friend and never goes out alone.

Is Pink Beach crowded?

July and August are the crowded months, and December is busy. Other months are quieter. Mornings are calmer than afternoons. On the example route you reach the beach in the morning, after Padar, which helps.

Is the sand really pink?

Pale pink, in patches. The tint comes from fragments of red coral mixed into the sand, and the color shifts with the light and the tide. It is not bright pink. Look at the wet sand at the waterline, where the color deepens.

Do we need our own snorkel gear?

No, the boat carries snorkeling equipment on all three vessels. Bring your own mask only if a rental one never fits your face. Reef-safe sunscreen is the one item to carry yourself, since it protects the reef you are about to swim over.
