How to split cabins and costs on a private phinisi

Updated 27 October 2026

To split cabins and costs on a private phinisi, fill the bunk cabins first, give the doubles to couples, then divide the whole-boat fare by the head count. On Arham Jaya 2 with 12 guests that is IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228) each for 3 days 2 nights, park tickets extra.

Cabins first, then names

Settle the beds before the money. A private charter fare covers the whole boat, so every cabin is yours and the only question is who takes which bed.

The second Share Cabin on Arham Jaya 2 has four single bunk beds, so it suits four friends who do not mind bunks. The first has two double bunk beds and sleeps four as well. Nusantara Karya has the same idea in a different shape. Its first Share Cabin has two double bunk beds, and its second has one double bed plus two single bunks.

Give the doubles to couples and the bunk cabins to the people who will not mind. Each boat stops at 14 guests whatever the beds add up to.

  • Arham Jaya 2: 6 cabins, each with its own bathroom. Two Master Cabin Balconies, two Private Cabin Sea Views and two Share Cabins.
  • Nusantara Karya: 5 cabins, each with its own bathroom. One Master Cabin Balcony, a Deluxe and a Private Cabin Sea View, and two Share Cabins.
  • Segara Liveaboard: 6 rooms and 5 private bathrooms. The Standard Cabin Room shares a bathroom.

The cabins page has the bed plan of each boat, bed by bed.

Costs per head, two ways

There are two honest ways to split a private charter, and the group should pick one before the first message about money.

Equal split. Divide the whole-boat fare by the head count. At 12 guests on Arham Jaya 2 the boat is IDR 44,500,000 (≈ USD 2,730), which is IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228) each. On Nusantara Karya it is IDR 48,000,000 (≈ USD 2,945), or IDR 4,000,000 (≈ USD 245) each. Segara's whole-boat price is on request.

Split by cabin. Give each cabin a weight from the seat fare card, add the weights, and let each person pay their weight divided by the sum, times the whole-boat total. On Arham Jaya 2 a Master Cabin Balcony 1 seat is IDR 5,250,000 (≈ USD 322) and a Share Cabin seat is IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206). Those two numbers are your weights.

Equal is simpler and nobody argues. The cabin split is fairer when a balcony and a bunk are in the same group.

Ticket on its own line. Every share above excludes the park ticket: IDR 50,000 per Indonesian guest on a weekday, IDR 75,000 on a weekend and IDR 250,000 per international guest. A guide and documentation are not in a private charter fare either.

One way to lower the share. Take the bunk cabins and vote on the balcony. The boat costs the same whichever cabins you use, so the bunks do not save money. A fuller boat does.

One name holds the booking

One person books and pays on behalf of the group. That person is the booking name, and the group pays that person, not the boat.

Pick the name early. The booking name receives the quote, pays the 50% deposit to confirm the date and pays the balance 30 days before departure. Everyone else sends their share to that one person by the date the group agrees, ahead of ours.

Give the booking name a shared note that the whole group can read. It should hold five lines:

  • the boat, the route and the dates
  • the head count the quote was written for
  • each person's share and the date it is due
  • the deposit date and the balance date
  • names as written in each passport, because the harbor manifest needs them

That person is also the one we message. That keeps one thread, one set of dates and one place where the final figure lives.

A guest cancels: what moves

When one friend drops out, two things can move: the head count band and the refund. Check the band first.

On Nusantara Karya the price is IDR 48,000,000 (≈ USD 2,945) for 11 to 14 guests and IDR 44,000,000 (≈ USD 2,699) for 1 to 10. A group of 11 that loses one person falls into the lower band, and the boat gets cheaper. A group of 12 that loses one stays in the same band and the boat costs the same, so each share rises. At 12 the share is IDR 4,000,000 (≈ USD 245). At 10 it is IDR 4,400,000 (≈ USD 270).

On Arham Jaya 2 the price steps at 5, 8 and 11 guests. Losing the eighth guest drops a group of 8 into the 5 to 7 band, so the boat gets cheaper by a step.

The deposit and balance follow the cancellation table below. The refund is 50% at the longest notice, 25% at the next band and nothing once the balance is due. A date change inside the window costs IDR 500,000.

A substitute guest can take the place of a friend who drops out. Send us the new name as written in the passport.

A one-page plan to share

Paste this into the group chat and fill in the blanks. It takes the place of the spreadsheet.

  • Boat and route: which of the three boats, and 2, 3 or 4 days.
  • Head count: the number the quote names, no more than 14.
  • Cabins: who sleeps in the bunk cabins and who gets the doubles.
  • Whole-boat price: as written on the quote.
  • Share per person: the whole-boat price divided by the head count.
  • Park ticket: its own line, per guest, paid on top.
  • Booking name: the person who pays and receives the quote.
  • Dates: deposit date and balance date.

Send the finished list to us on WhatsApp and we check it against the quote line by line. Anything that does not match gets corrected before a deposit moves.

FAQ

Should we split equally or by cabin?

Equal is simpler and keeps the group friendly. A cabin split is fairer when a balcony and a bunk sit side by side. Either way, divide the whole-boat price by the same head count first. At 12 guests on Arham Jaya 2 that is IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228) each before any cabin weighting.

What if one person drops out?

Check the band. On Nusantara Karya a group of 12 stays in the 11 to 14 band after one drop, so the boat costs the same and each share rises. Fall to 10 and the boat drops to IDR 44,000,000 (≈ USD 2,699). The deposit follows the cancellation table.

Who takes the bunk beds?

The Share Cabins sleep four each and suit friends who don't mind bunks. On Arham Jaya 2 the second Share Cabin has four single bunks. Segara's Sharing Cabin Room has two double bunk beds. Each of these bunk rooms has its own bathroom.

Can couples get a double bed?

Yes. The Master and Private cabins on Arham Jaya 2 and Nusantara Karya each have a double bed and their own bathroom. Segara's Master, Deluxe and Superior rooms each have a queen bed. Ask which cabin type fits your couple.

Do children count in the split?

Children aged 0 to 2 travel free. From age 3 the full fare applies. Count every child from that age in the guest band, because the band decides the whole-boat price.
