Splitting the cost of a Komodo boat across 10 to 14 people
Updated 27 October 2026
A Komodo group trip cost split per person comes to IDR 3,180,000 (≈ USD 195) on Arham Jaya 2 or IDR 3,430,000 (≈ USD 210) on Nusantara Karya when 14 guests share the boat for 3 days and 2 nights. The full boat is what lowers the share, and park tickets sit on top.
The sum for 10, 12 and 14 on each boat
The whole boat has one price. Your share is that price divided by everyone in the group chat. This is the sum for 3 days and 2 nights, with the park ticket kept on its own line.
| Boat | 10 guests | 12 guests | 14 guests |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arham Jaya 2 | IDR 4,150,000 (≈ USD 255) | IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228) | IDR 3,180,000 (≈ USD 195) |
| Nusantara Karya | IDR 4,400,000 (≈ USD 270) | IDR 4,000,000 (≈ USD 245) | IDR 3,430,000 (≈ USD 210) |
| Segara Liveaboard | On request | On request | On request |
Behind the table are the whole-boat totals. Arham Jaya 2 costs IDR 41,500,000 (≈ USD 2,546) for 10 guests and IDR 44,500,000 (≈ USD 2,730) for 12 or 14. Nusantara Karya costs IDR 44,000,000 (≈ USD 2,699) for 10 guests and IDR 48,000,000 (≈ USD 2,945) for 12 or 14.
Segara Liveaboard follows the same route, but its whole-boat price is on request, so its row reads On request and not a number. Its seats start from IDR 2,750,000 (≈ USD 169) per person.
An honest saving tip: count again before you send the number. Moving from 12 to 14 friends keeps the Arham Jaya 2 total the same and cuts every share.
Whole boat versus seats for a cost-minded group
A seat is a bed on a Monday or Friday departure, shared with other groups. A cost-minded group should know where the whole boat beats it, and where it does not.
On Arham Jaya 2, a Share Cabin seat is IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206) per person. Only at the full 14 does the whole of Arham Jaya 2 cost less per head, at IDR 3,180,000 (≈ USD 195). At 13 guests it is IDR 3,420,000 (≈ USD 210), which is higher, and at 12 it is IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228).
On Nusantara Karya, the bunk seat is IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206) and the whole boat at 14 is IDR 3,430,000 (≈ USD 210). The whole boat is never cheaper per head than that seat. What a full boat buys is privacy and your own itinerary, not a lower fare.
Segara has the lowest seat fare of the three boats, IDR 2,750,000 (≈ USD 169) in the Sharing Cabin Room. No whole-boat comparison is possible, because the whole-boat price is on request.
The comparison leaves out the guide and documentation, which a private charter does not include. A seat fare includes the tour guide and documentation on all three boats. Park fees are extra in both.
Who pays what and when
One person books, and one person pays the deposit. The deposit is 50% of the boat fare, and it holds the date. The balance is due 30 days before departure. In the group chat, that means asking each friend for their share of the deposit first, then the rest.
If the group cancels 60 days or more before departure, 50% of the payment comes back. Between 30 and 59 days it is 25%. A later change of date costs IDR 500,000.
Children aged 0 to 2 travel free. From age 3 the full fare applies, so a three-year-old is a full share. Count children aged 3 and above in the 14.
If two friends drop out, the total stays put until a band changes. At 14 guests on Arham Jaya 2, a share is IDR 3,180,000 (≈ USD 195). At 12 guests the same boat is IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228), because the 11 to 14 band holds one price.
| Deposit | 50 percent of the total |
| Balance | 30 days before |
| Bookings inside 30 days pay in full | |
| Children | Under 3 free, accompanied by a parent |
| Prices include 11 percent VAT · Passport details 7 days before sailing |
Tickets and extras outside the split
Tickets for the park are charged per head and sit outside the fare: IDR 50,000 for Indonesians on a weekday, IDR 75,000 on a weekend, IDR 250,000 for foreign guests. Ranger and pier charges come on top, on the day.
A private charter also leaves out the guide and the photo and video documentation. Ask for either and we quote it separately, with no price given here.
Inside the split: the whole boat, its crew and cabins, meals, snorkeling gear, life jackets and pickup at the harbor. Outside it: flights, your hotel, park tickets, ranger fees, gratuities and personal spending. The price page has both lists in full.
| International visitors | IDR 250,000 per person per day |
| Indonesian visitors | IDR 50,000 per person per day · IDR 75,000 weekends & holidays |
Paid separately in cash or e-ticket; ranger and pier levies are extra and can change. Regulation: PP 36/2024 · Verified 27 October 2026.
Cheaper cabins, cheaper per head: where it stops
A whole-boat split does not price cabins one by one. Every cabin on the boat is yours, and the group decides who takes which bed. The cheaper-cabin idea belongs to seats.
It is still worth knowing what a low fare means. On Arham Jaya 2 the Share Cabins sleep 4 on bunks, with 2 double bunk beds in one and 4 single bunk beds in the other. Nusantara Karya has the same idea in its two Share Cabins. On Segara Liveaboard the Sharing Cabin Room sleeps 4 on bunks, and the Standard Cabin Room shares a bathroom.
Cheaper is cheaper for a reason: bunks, a shared bathroom, no balcony. A group that wants a private bathroom for everyone should look at Arham Jaya 2 or Nusantara Karya, where all cabins have one.
On a split, the bunks are about fairness, not price. Rotate them, or draw lots.
A group-chat message to copy
Paste this into the chat and fill in the blanks. It gives people the number first and a date to answer by.
“Hi all, I priced a private boat for Komodo, 3 days and 2 nights. The whole boat divided by 12 is IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228) each on Arham Jaya 2. Park tickets are extra: IDR 50,000 on a weekday for Indonesians, IDR 250,000 for foreign guests. The deposit is 50% to hold the date. Reply with in or out by Friday and I book once we have 12.”
Swap in the Nusantara Karya figure if the group prefers it. Send the message once, with the number in it, and the replies come faster.
FAQ
How do we split the cost fairly?
Divide the whole-boat price by the head count, then add each guest's park ticket on its own line. At 12 guests on Arham Jaya 2 the boat share is IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228). Fairness for cabins is a group decision, because the boat price does not change with who takes which bed.
What if two people drop out?
Inside a band the total stays put and every share rises. On Arham Jaya 2, 14 guests pay IDR 3,180,000 (≈ USD 195) each, and 12 guests pay IDR 3,710,000 (≈ USD 228) each. Below 11 guests the band drops, so the total changes. Tell us early.
Do children count in the split?
Children aged 0 to 2 travel free and add no cost. From age 3 the full fare applies, so the child takes a full share. Count children aged 3 and above in the 14.
Can one person pay the deposit?
Yes. One booking name pays the 50% deposit and the balance 30 days before departure. How you collect from friends is your group's business. We deal with one booking name, and you send us one transfer for the deposit and one for the balance.
Which boat is the cheapest per head?
At 14 guests, Arham Jaya 2 at IDR 3,180,000 (≈ USD 195) per person is lower than Nusantara Karya at IDR 3,430,000 (≈ USD 210). Segara's whole-boat price is on request, so we cannot compare it. Park tickets are extra on all three.
